The Story behind the Shot:

We were guiding guests on a safari who wanted to see the big “super tuskers”, since there are only about 25 left in the world.
(A “super tusker” is defined in East Africa as elephants with at least one tusk weighing 100 pounds.)
We were with Craig, Amboseli's oldest super tusker, when this guy caught our attention since he was posing so nicely with Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain.
And though his tusks were broken, the special thing about shot is the snow on the mountain: there was once a large icecap that frosted the tip of the mountain, but -- due to global warming -- it's almost gone. Luckily for us, it snowed on the mountain the night before, giving it the appearance of the icecap, till the snow melted a few hours later!

Mt. Kilimanjaro is technically in Tanzania, it’s very close to the Kenyan border.
Elephants roam freely between the two countries: to them, it’s all one eco-system.

Unfortunately, when elephants cross into Tanzania, they are now in danger of being hunted.
In September 2024, just weeks before this image was taken, Tanzania ended a 30-year moratorium on trophy hunting elephants along the border with Kenya.
Between September 2023 and April 2024 — four of the Earths 25 remaining super tuskers have been killed for sport.

What can you do to help?
1. Sign the petition, appealing to Tanzania’s President Suluhu, to end trophy hunting along Kenya’s border:

2. When you purchase this print, we’ll donate 50% of the proceeds to Amboseli Trust for Elephants.

3. Come on safari with us! We donate a portion of everyone’s cost toward elephant conservation, you’ll have an opportunity to interact with elephants at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and see elephants like this one in the wild, where they belong!
