ITINERARY

23 JULY: ARRIVE NAIROBI: Emara or Similar
Arrive Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you’ll be greeted by your guide and escorted to your hotel for your overnight stay. Arrive in the morning or the night before to experience Nairobi. They say if you blow into an elephant’s trunk, he’ll remember you forever. What better way to begin your adventure than with a PRIVATE, INTERACTIVE experience at Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage where you can actually play with baby elephants? The magic continues at The Giraffe Centre where—if you are very brave!—you may “kiss” a giraffe! We’ll be there every step of the way to guide you and take care of all your needs so you can relax and enjoy your adventure!

24 & 25 JULY: TSAVO EAST: Ithumba Hill
Enjoy intimate, interactive experiences with the orphaned elephants rescued by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust as they transition back into the wild at Sheldrick’s “Re-Integration Unit”. Huge herds of wild elephants, including big tuskers, also frequent the unit, and it’s a fabulous opportunity for elephant lovers and wildlife photographers alike to enjoy and photograph these gentle giants from the ground.

Each day at Ithumba offers 3 interactive experiences with the elephants:
1. Arise at 5:30am to witness the elephants' 6am feeding.
2. At 11am, the elephants gather around a large waterhole to drink and have a “mud bath”. Interacting with the orphans as they play in the water will be in experience you'll remember always.
3. At 5pm, watch the elephants get their bedtime milk, play, and go back to their stockades for the night.

In between, you’ll enjoy sumptuous food, prepared lovingly by Sheldrick’s extraordinary chefs, and have the option of game drives around Tsavo East, which is host to a plethora of animals, including wild dogs.

26 JULY: TSAVO WEST: Kilaguni
Journey to Tsavo West where you’ll enjoy a spectacular array of wildlife right from your lodge! You may choose to wine and dine at the lodge’s prolific water hole where you’ll hope to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, and other plains game. Or, you may venture out on a game drive to see the hippos of Mzima Springs, track lions, rhinos or leopards.

27 & 28 JULY: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK: Serena
Amboseli is best known for its large herds of elephants against the stunning backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain. It’s also a bird-lover’s paradise! During game drives, you are guaranteed to see elephants — including big tuskers! — but you may also see lions (including Loonkito, the oldest lion in the world!), serval cats (including a melanistic serval!), hippos, zebras, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, cheetah, and over 300 kinds of birds.

29 & 30 JULY: SAMBURU: Larsens
Flight: Amboseli—Samburu (via Nairobi)

Famed for its rugged beauty, rich wildlife and semi-nomadic Samburu tribesmen. In addition to elephants and a plethora of big cats, Samburu offers a "Special 5" unique to the area: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevvy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe, Beisa Oryx and the Somali ostrich. It’s also home to one of our favorite leopards, a notch-eared beauty named “Neloua,” but we just call her “Mama” because she’s been such a great mother to all her cubs! A very special visit can be arranged to the Umoja Women’s Village in Samburu for a small supplemental donation to the village. Umoja means “Unity” in Swahili: the village was founded by women for women who are survivors of domestic violence and abuse. In the afternoon, cool off from the sun in your tent’s personal “plunge pool” overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. Sip a glass of wine and enjoy the scene of elephants, Grevy’s zebras, oryx, and other wildlife as they frolick in the river and meander past your tent!

31 JULY - 3 AUGUST: MASAI MARA: Enkewa
Flight: Samburu—Mara

Famed for its large population of black-maned Masai lions, African leopards and Tanzanian cheetahs, Masai Mara also welcomes the The Great Migration. Witness Nature's grand spectacle of zebra and wildebeest as they journey to Mara each July and August in search of fresh grass attracting big cats galore. Enjoy extras like a Hot Air Balloon Ride over the plains to view the Migration from above, a Sundowner, or an Evening Game Drive. We strive to fulfill your every desire to make this the trip of your lifetime!

3 AUGUST: DEPART OR CONTINUE TO MARA CONSERVANCIES
Flight: Mara—Nairobi

MARA CONSERVANCY EXTENSION:

DAYS 1 -3: OLARE MOTOROGI & MARA NORTH CONSERVANCY: Kicheche
Guests opting to join our Mara Conservancy Extension will spend three full days and nights exploring areas of extreme beauty with an abundance of big cats, including a large concentration of leopards.

We love the conservancies for a bunch of reasons:
- They’re GORGEOUS!
- They’re private, with only a few boutique camps.
- They often have higher concentrations of wildlife than the National Parks.
- Driving off-road is often permitted, allowing for more intimate sightings.
- The number of cars at animal sightings are limited to 4 or 5 to protect the animals, so there are no “mob scenes” as you may see in the parks.
- Exciting night game drives and walking safaris offer a fantastic compliment to your safari.
But the most important reason to visit a conservancy is……
It’s a magnificent and powerful way to support Kenya’s people and animals!

Prior to the creation of conservancies, animals outside the protected areas of the parks suffered serious decline due to human-wildlife conflict. Now, since landowners collect income from the conservancy fees and lodges, they no longer think of wildlife as a nuisance or a threat to their livestock, but something valuable that needs to be conserved and protected. As a result, the animals’ populations in these areas are starting to thrive again. And because conservancies also support schools and hospitals, the communities are thriving too!
